There are few views as breath-taking as those seen from the banks of Loch Lomond. I have selected two images, one looking north and one looking south to let you see what I mean.
There’s nothing like stepping out on a crisp winter morning to see the mountains of Scotland at their most beautiful. In the spring of last year shortly before we ended up in lockdown, I met my daughters at Balmaha and we walked north along the West Highland Way on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond. The walk follows roads, metal tracks and paths through woodland, over small hills and along secluded and beautiful beaches. It was from one of the beaches that I took the picture below looking north west across the loch at the snow capped hills to the north of Helensburgh.

Before the pandemic you could regularly find me with my brother driving north along the west bank of Loch Lomond heading to the mountains around Glencoe. Parking along this stretch of road at the car park at Inveruglas also opens up a range of walks. From here you can access the Glenloin Loop, a walk of around 12 miles through the Arrochar Alps, or two of the mountains themselves, Ben Vorlich and Ben Vane. A less strenuous but equally beautiful walk is up the road to the Sloy Dam some 3 miles away. Whatever walking route you may take from this car park or even if you’re just stopping for a coffee, the view from here is simply stunning. The picture below was taken from the car park at Inveruglas looking south across the beautiful waters of Loch Lomond to the peak of Ben Lomond.
