Her beauty is breath-taking
In the closing scenes of the movie Braveheart, the narrator describes the Scots as a nation of warrior poets. In Scotland you only have to open your eyes and look in any direction to see where the poetry comes from. These are a tiny selection of the countless scenes of beauty I have snapped whilst travelling around my home country.
To a large extent I was brought up on the West Coast of Scotland and this is where I have settled in the small town of Prestwick. With a beach 5 minutes walk from my house and sunsets like the one below, it’s a lovely place to live.

The Island of Arran has a bit of everything. A castle, miles of rugged coast and spectacular climbing and trekking in her mountains. I love to visit and took this on the ferry one morning as we sailed across the short stretch of water towards her.

If ever there was a mountain I climbed for the love of the mountains, it was Suilven. Sitting in a remote area in the Scottish Highlands she looks stunning. In the distance, during the climb and the views from the top, stunning.

Loch Lomond is recognized as one of the beauty spots of Europe, if not the world. Towering above her is Ben Lomond, one of Scotland’s most famous mountains. These pictures capture her beauty from opposite ends and sides of the loch.

For just about any kind of outdoor adventure sport, there’s few places better to go than the Cairngorm Mountains near Aviemore. I trained in this area with the British Army before deploying to the Arctic, we spent several family holidays here when my daughters were young and I often return.

When it comes to famous Scottish Mountains, you don’t get any more famous that Ben Nevis. This mountain has everything from the trek up the Mountain Path to hard core climbing on the spectacular North Face. The photo below was taken near the CIC Hut at the foot of the North Face. It’s about as close to the North Face as I’ll probably get.

Scotland is spectacular and beautiful at night. Galloway Forest Park hosts one of the few Dark Sky areas around the world where there is no light pollution. On a clear night with no moon you might as well be sitting in outer space. The pictures below show the beauty when the moon is shining.

I hope you enjoyed this virtual view as much as I enjoyed putting it together. If you’ve seen this for real or maybe live here and see it every day, I hope you enjoy the beauty and the peace. If you haven’t seen this for real, come on over. We’d love to have you.
